Navratri is celebrated all over India with much pomp & reverence. The essence of this festival lies in faith & glorification of the nine aspects of Durga, one on each of the nine days.during Navratri nine forms of Shakti are worshiped.

Along with Navratri comes the fast & fasting food, During the nine days of Navratri feasting &
fasting take precedence over all normal daily activities. People observe fast during Navratri & cook different kind of dishes which are common during fasting.

I am posting the recipe of "Dry Fruit Kheer" which is one of the simple & healthy dish. This
dish has a 
high energy content, so helpful during fasting.

Dry Fruit Kheer

Dry fruit kheer is a savory mix of creamy milk with tidbits of crunchy, chewy dried fruits & nuts.
It is
delicious by itself.

Dry Fruit Kheer

Dry fruit kheer is a nice, sweet, nutritious & delightful recipe which is so simple, easy & quick 
to make.


1 litre milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
15 strands saffron crushed, soaked in 1 tsp hot milk
1 tbsp poppy seeds (khus khus)
7-8 raisins (kishmish)
10-12 cashew nuts (kaju)
10-12 almonds (badam) 
10-12 pistachios (pishta)
10-12 chironji (charoli) 
10-12 walnuts (akhrot)


1. Soak almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios, walnuts, Charoli, poppy seeds separately.

2. Bring milk to boil & reduce it to 3/4.

3. Peel almonds, pistachios & grind all dry fruits (including poppy seeds) together to a 
    smooth paste.

4. Now add this paste & raisins to reduced milk & bring it boil until every thing blends well.

5. Add sugar, cardamom powder & saffron, mix well & boil for some time. Switch off the heat.

6. Garnish with chopped cashew nuts, almond, pistachio & saffron strands.

7. Serve hot or cold as desired.
